First of all, it seems only five countries know how to publish major games and virtually Japan and US divides the market. Those five countries are US, Japan, France, Korea and UK. Those five countries will be rich since having game business means a lot. It means other industries are also strong enough to support game industry.
And, I didn't know Nintendo makes a lot more softwares than Sony or Microsoft. If it was console hardware ranking, it should be Microsoft>Nintendo> Sony or 360>Wii>PS3.
So far, I thought that Eidos is Japanese Company, but it turn out to be an England company based on London.
Regardless of the ranking, if the game is from Eidos, Midway, NCsoft or Ubisoft, it doesn't sell very well. Different than Call of duty (Activision), Brothers in arms (Ubisoft) doesn't sell very well. Now I understand why. Except Midway, those are not US companies.
And, here's the shocking thing. I knew NCsoft is from Korea, but I didn't know it's this much big company. I am pretty sure NCsoft is the youngest company among those found in 1990s.
We have at least 2,500 games in my shop and surprisingly, we don't have any game NCsoft has published in stock. They didn't make a lot of games. They made three major online games so far and those are Lineage, Guild War and City of Heroes. We used to carry only one each copy of Guild War and Lineage, but I had to eliminate them through online since nobody want them for long a year ago. But, still, the CEO of NCsoft, Kim Taek-Jin is called the first generation of IT in Korea. Without him, probably Korea also never had a game companies like the rest of countries.
Many Americans do not know that, but NCsoft makes money a little different ways in Korea. Lineage is online game like World of Warcraft. But, surprisingly, if you make some point online, you can turn the points into real cash in the bank. There are lots of Koreans making monthly income that way and it has produced a lot of lineage addicts in the country. Maybe that's why the company ranked so highly though it has only three major games total.
